Serenity
This series emerged during a period of uncertainty marked by loss and burnout. After years of traveling extensively as a landscape photographer, Nika felt drawn away from vast panoramas and distant horizons. What she needed was stillness - time to stay with her thoughts and reconsider what truly matters.
The work is rooted in a quiet conviction: beauty exists everywhere, especially in what we tend to overlook. In the speed of daily life, we often overlook not only subtle details in our surroundings, but also our own emotions, fears, and desires. This series became a deliberate act of slowing down. Through careful observation, Nika entered a more honest conversation with herself.
Nika focused on fragments of the natural world - shifting light, blurred reflections, wind moving through foliage, the meeting of color and shadow. Nature, in this body of work, is not simply subject matter. It is a foundation. In a moment of personal depletion, it offered stability and quiet restoration. Standing within forests, near water, or under open sky, she experienced a sense of sufficiency - a reminder that before ambition, productivity, or external validation, there is ground, air, light. There is the simple fact of being alive within a living world.
Using long exposures and intentional camera movement, she applied landscape techniques in an unexpected way, transforming observation into abstraction. The camera became both instrument and brush. Layers dissolve into one another, shapes soften, and fields of color gather depth, gently dissolving the boundary between photography and painting, creating images that feel atmospheric and immersive.
The photographs do not document specific locations; they hold its atmosphere. They carry tone, rhythm, and sensation rather than geography. They suggest that what truly matters is often elemental and not materialistic - connection, presence, independence, physical and mental health. As the photographs unfold slowly to the eye, they invite the same attentiveness that shaped them: a pause, a breath, a return to what sustains us.
This series represents a turning point in Nika’s practice, a movement inward that allowed renewal and expansion. It is a quiet reminder that when we return to what sustains us, we also return to ourselves. Through slowing down and attending to detail, she healed, reconnected with her artistic voice and regained clarity, carrying that awareness into subsequent bodies of work.
